Pyrex No Leak Lids 6-Pc Storage Set Review

Pyrex No Leak Lids 6-Pc Storage Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Like many people these days I was looking to replace my old, barely-functioning plastic storage containers and upgrade to glass for health reasons. In my quest for the best product I bought and ultimately returned Snapware Glasslock, Kinetic Glasslock, and Anchor Hocking TrueSeal. The Anchor Hocking TrueSeal leaked like a sieve so that was an immediate no. The Snapware Glasslock and Kinetic Glasslock both were leakproof, but I decided against them because I like the look of Pyrex No Leak better, and it has additional benefits such as a microwaveable lid and oven proof glass.
What I love about Pyrex No Leak: First and foremost it is 100% leakproof. I was a little worried about buying Pyrex because their Basic Glass Containers (blue lids) and Glass Lids Containers (red lids) are definitely not leakproof. I tested the Pyrex No Leak out of the box by filling them with water and shaking them upside down, not one drop came out. Yesterday, I packed soup for lunch and my lunch bag turned upside down in the car. The No Leak performed great and not a drop was spilled. The round and rectangular shapes are equally waterproof.
Next I feel that Pyrex No Leak has the best overall features of any glass containers on the market. The lids are BPA-free, and the containers are freezer, microwave, and dishwasher (top rack) safe. While these features are pretty standard, Pyrex No Leak containers are also oven-safe (glass containers only) and the lids are microwaveable. All the competing lids must be removed for microwave use, and while I am trying to get away from using plastic, the reality is there are times when I don't have or don't want to use a paper towel and isn't it nice that I can simply use the lid if I want? Also the clean up is easy. To wash in the dishwasher I remove the inner rubber seal from the lid and place the seal, lid, and container in the top rack. I haven't had any issues with the lid warping or the glass containers breaking or anything like that. I've also washed the containers by hand and that is quick and easy as well.
Finally, the Pyrex No Leak containers look fantastic. The grey lids are a nice neutral color that will go with any decor. At first I was looking for clear lids. I have a few Rubbermaid Stainshield containers and I love being able to see the food through the top of the container. So I thought I would love the locking lids from Snapware and Kinetic. My personal feeling is that, sitting atop a clear glass container, the clear plastic lids look cloudy by comparison. Also I really like that the No Leak lids are traditionally styled (no lock down tabs on the sides). It looks very streamlined and modern.
Overall I am very happy with my Pyrex No Leak containers and I've ordered a bunch more. My only complaints are the following: The glass containers are hot to the touch after microwaving. This will of course be true of any glass containers, not just these. Pyrex, if you are listening I would love to see you offer a removable rubber sleeve that can go over the glass containers for microwave use (much like the cardboard sleeves that coffee shops use). Of course if I'm at home I can just use an oven mitt to remove the container, but the rubber sleeve would be great for work and travel. Another disappointment was actually the microwave vent in the lid. With my old plastic containers I would just loosen the lid and place it on top to microwave. Pyrex No Leak has a specially designed vent, and I excited to try this new feature. I reheated split pea soup in the microwave with the lid on and the microwave vent opened and after 1:30 I had split pea explosion all over the microwave. I reheated the same soup, but this time left the microwave vent closed and placed the lid loosely on top, and it heated beautifully, no mess. So I'm still giving the product five stars because it works great using the alternate method. As a side note, I was initially worried that Pyrex No Leak containers do not nest. You must put the lids on and stack them for storage. I have a LOT of containers, but this has not been an issue for me. Glass containers are going to take up more space than plastic anyway so I don't think you save too much room by having containers that nest.
I currently own the 2-cup round, 4-cup round, 3-cup rectangular, and 6-cup rectangular containers. I have since ordered more of these plus the 7-cup round and 11-cup rectangular. I wish they offered a 1 cup size, but they do not. The 2, 3, and 4-cup sizes are great for lunches. I'm looking forward to getting the 7-cup and 11-cup for large batches of leftovers.

Luminarc 8015495 9-Piece Stackable Glass Mixing Bowls Set Review

Luminarc 8015495 9-Piece Stackable Glass Mixing Bowls Set

These bowls are great! They stack neatly, and are very durable yet lightweight! They are both ovenproof and microwaveable.
My only comment is that the five smaller bowls are maybe too much, too little. They make great mise en place setups, but really are too small for most other purposes.
I'd have liked the largest bowl to be the 11 1/2 and I could have given up a couple of the smaller bowls.
Of course, these comments are about personal preference.

Pyrex Prepware 1-Quart Rimmed Mixing Bowl, Clear Review

Pyrex Prepware 1-Quart Rimmed Mixing Bowl, Clear
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I know that my title for this review is a bit odd, but it is the truth! I fond that standard bowls are a little too small for cans of "Chunky" or "Healthy Sensations" soup. In standard bowl the soup comes within 1/2" of the top which makes transporting a your steamy hot soup a bit hazardous. This is not a problem with the Pyrex Prepware 1-Quart bowl!
Other features that we like-
- Completely microwave safe
- Scratch resistant
- Well-made and strudy
- Classic design
- Pyrex means that they offer some level of shock resistance
- Great value.
While these bowls may not be your choice for a nice get together they work very well for lunch!
5 Stars

Anchor Hocking TrueSeal Glass Storage Container - Round - 7 cups Review

Anchor Hocking TrueSeal Glass Storage Container - Round - 7 cups

Opening the refrigerator is now a pleasure rather than a treasure hunt!!!!!!!! The best surprise after purchase was that the lids have a clear circle in the center of them allowing light into the top of the container. At last! I can SEE perfectly what I have stored because the food shows up so well being lit from above as well as all around! These are the best food storage containers on the market. As is typical, I did a lot of research.
As is typical, I did a lot of research and found nothing better available anywhere. They seal perfectly. They are freezer safe, dishwasher safe, and microwave safe. The lids seal very, very well and storing one's food in glass just makes good sense. The lids can be lifted slightly for microwave and, of course, the glass doesn't stain with tomato based products, or curry or such. You will probably immediately notice how BAD your other storage really is. I replaced ALL of my other containers in a one day swoop and am pleased, pleased, pleased at the service and the look that these offer. I feel, well, so up-graded!!!!! These may be a small luxury you give yourself just to avoid all the hassles all of the other storage systems have! Go for it. I don't see how you could regret it!

Pyrex Serveware Sculptured 3-Cup Bowl, Clear with Blue Lid Review

Pyrex Serveware Sculptured 3-Cup Bowl, Clear with Blue Lid

I cook and freeze a lot of meals for my husband, who often works late. I won't use Tupperware or other plastic because I believe plastic can leach into food while microwaving, but Pyrex bowls of this size are hard to find in stores -- most stores have Pyrex baking sets with several containers that are too large or too small.
Finally, I can buy just these bowls, as many as I want, without getting stuck with other sizes I don't need. This is a great price for them, too -- on ebay, people want more, plus shipping!

Anchor Hocking TrueSeal Food Storage Sets

I have recently started cooking extra meals and then freezing them. I have been looking for containers that were freezer and oven safe and came with an airtight lid. These are perfect. The lids were very easy to use, you just press down on the center and all the air comes out and its sealed. I bought the 11-cup size and am glad I didn't go smaller. It is pretty close to the size of an 8X8 inch pan, but deeper.

The Bormioli Frigoverre Square Glass Storage containers are absolutely fantastic. We have the square and circle sets, and use them on a daily basis for food storage. We love the products so much that we've gifted them to friends and family members. The heavy-duty glass is very durable. We've gone from freezer to microwave without a problem. The plastic lids make a great seal, and pasta sauce has not caused permanent stains like it does to other storage medium. Due to the different sizes, we can store them in a tight space in the cabinet when they are not being used. Excellent design. Excellent product!

Sleek and stylish, this set of three food-storage containers makes a smart choice for preserving leftovers, storing dry goods, packing on-the-go lunches, and more. The units feature clear, tempered-glass bases that resist staining and allow for a quick view of inside contents, while their compact, square shapes save space by stacking neatly with other containers in the refrigerator. Equipped with corner tabs for easy removal, the containers' durable propylene lids provide extra-secure, airtight seals that ensure spill-proof use, even when filled with sloshy soups, sauces, and other liquid-based foods. Best of all, the handsome containers move effortlessly from the pantry or fridge to the dishwasher for safe, thorough cleanup. Made in Italy, the 7-1/2-ounce container measures approximately 5-4/5 by 5-4/5 by 3-3/4 inches, the 17-ounce container measures approximately 7-1/2 by 7-1/2 by 3-3/4 inches, and the 47-ounce container measures approximately 8-4/5 by 8-4/5 by 3-3/4 inches.

Pyrex Storage 6-Cup Rectangular Dish with Dark Blue Plastic Cover, Clear Review

Pyrex Storage 6-Cup Rectangular Dish with Dark Blue Plastic Cover, Clear
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We were pleased to find that this container can be used for some types of COOKING, not just for storage. We had been looking for a small baking dish, about this size.
We like the convenience of a container that can be used for baking or microwaving, and then covered and used to store any leftovers, without the bother of scooping into a different container.
Note: The container does not have handles on the sides, so it can be tricky to grasp with potholders when removing from a microwave or regular oven. On the other hand, the lack of handles allows it to use space efficiently in the refrigerator.
The paper label (found inside this Pyrex glass container) indicates it is oven safe (in a regular oven, preheated), and microwave safe, freezer safe, and dishwasher safe. However, like most Pyrex, it is NOT broiler safe, and should not be used on stove-top burners. There is also a warning against use in a toaster oven.

The plastic lid should not be used in a regular oven, of course. I assume we should unseal and loosen the lid, before we put it in the microwave. It is BPA free, according to the fine print on the paper label.
The plastic lid goes on easily, and fits OK, but not perfectly tight. I think if I turned the container upside down, the contents would leak around the edges of the lid. I assume that if we put the lid in the dishwasher, we should only use the top rack, if at all. When we looked at reviews for some of the other Pyrex storage containers, a few reviewers recommended hand washing the lid; they thought the plastic lids might keep their shape better if hand washed.
We have only had this for a few weeks, so cannot yet say how durable it is. I will add a "comment" to this review, if this product has problems later on.
In the past, we have bought Pyrex "Storage Deluxe" glass containers (with the vent tabs on the lids); they have endured years of frequent use with no chips. However, we eventually had to replace some of those vented plastic lids. We were able to buy replacement lids from the manufacturer's world kitchen web site and/or phone number; I assume that replacement lids for this non-vented type of storage container can also be obtained. I have heard that Pyrex outlet stores may also have replacement lids. I have not been able to find replacement lids on this site yet.
On the back of the paper label/insert, there are lots of warnings, in 3 languages (English, Spanish, French), but all in very small print. I think many people will have difficulty reading the tiny print.

The back of the label says: "Failure to follow these instructions can cause immediate or later breakage ..." I will mention some of the warnings and limitations here, so shoppers will know whether the limitations fit with how they plan to use the container: "AVOID SEVERE HOT TO COLD TEMPERATURE CHANGES." "DO NOT add liquid to hot dish..." Hmmm, sounds like basting is out. The label advises: "Add a small amount of liquid to the dish prior to baking foods that release liquids while baking."
DO NOT "place hot dish ... in a sink, immerse in water or place on cold or wet surfaces." ... "Allow glass to cool before soaking."
More warnings: When using the container in the microwave, do not use a microwave "BROWNER", and "DO NOT use PYREX glassware items ... to hold or support popcorn bags, microwave convenience foods with special browning wrappers, etc."
For use in a regular oven, the label implies that we should PREHEAT the oven BEFORE putting a Pyrex glass container in the oven. I have heard that some ovens use extra high heat during the preheat step -- higher than any regular baking temperature; but I don't know if that is true. I'm guessing that the exposure to extra high heat during preheating, could cause damage for Pyrex glass containers and dishes.
Information about measurements, for those who are looking for a particular size / shape for a particular recipe or storage need: The capacity is 6 cups or 1.42 Liters. The dimensions 8 x 6 x 2" are etched on the underside of the container. At first glance, the side walls appear almost straight; the walls are sloped outward at a very slight angle. Thus the length and width at the bottom are smaller than the length and width around the top edge.

Approximate Measurements of INTERIOR: The inside height is about 2 1/8", slightly more than labeled. The inside length and width, at the bottom: 7 1/8" x 5 1/8". The length and width near the top edge: 8 1/8" x 6 1/4".

EXTERIOR measurements (approximate): At outside top edge, without the lid: 8 1/2" x 6 5/8" x 2 3/8". With the lid on: 8 3/4" x 6 13/16" x 2 7/16".
I see that Pyrex recently came out with a very similar rectangular containers with a different lid, labeled "No Leak" -- the lid has a vent tab which can be opened or closed. They might have a tighter seal; we have not yet tried that version. If I were buying this again, I would consider that version. Here is a link to the version with the vented lid: Pyrex No Leak Lids 6 Cup Rectangle Baking Dish with Plastic Lid. Based on a quick glance, they appear about the same size; I don't know whether the lids are interchangeable.

----------

6 x 0.5 cups (118 mL)
6 x 1.25 cups (296 mL)
3 x 2 cups (473 mL)
3 x 3 cups (710 mL)
3 x 5 cups (1.2 Liter)
2 x 7 cups (1.7 Liter)
2 x Divided 4.8 cups (1.4 Liter)
----------

5 x 1.25 cups (296 mL)
2 x 2 cups (473 mL)
3 x 3 cups (710 mL)
4 x 5 cups (1.2 Liter)
3 x 7 cups (1.7 Liter)

2 x 1.25 cups (296 mL)
1 x 2 cups (473 mL)
2 x 3 cups (710 mL)
1 x 5 cups (1.2 Liter)
----------
One more note - I found that buying two of the 24 piece sets was several dollars cheaper than buying either the 50 or 48 piece sets, and would provide a nicer distribution that would fit my needs better. Prices will change, of course, so this may not always be true, but it was for me.
Here's some comparison data for buying a 50 piece set, a 48 piece set, 2x24 piece set, and 3x24 piece set, all of which are in a similar price range:
1x50 piece set: 6x0.5, 6x1.25, 3x2, 3x3, 3x5, 2x7, 2x4.8divided

I see others had shipping problems. My problem was not with the Amazon shipment. The cups were received fine. I got the cups out of the packaging and treated them with the utmost care. The first drink I put into it the interior wall on the bottom cracked. I contacted the manufacturer, no warranty. They responded not to let ice hit the bottom of the cup. These glasses are more museum piece than functional glassware.

This set of two 15-ounce glass mugs from Bodum brings a quiet sophistication to the breakfast table while offering prolonged insulation for hot and cold drinks alike. With their innovative double-walled design, the Bistro glassware line won a 2007 iF product design award. Artisans at Bodum craft the clear mugs by hand out of mouth-blown, heat-resistant borosilicate glass. As each mug is constructed individually, discrepancies in the thickness of glass, height, and weight may transpire from mug to mug. When holding iced tea, the mugs' double walls thwart the accumulation of condensation on the exterior, thus eliminating the need for coasters to protect surfaces from water damage. The exterior wall of each mug also stays cool to the touch while the interior steams with hot tea. While microwave- and dishwasher- safe, Bodum advises users load the mugs on the dishwasher's top shelf with extra wiggle room to avoid contact with other dishes. Take caution when filling with ice and extremely cold liquids as they may cause the mug interiors to crack. For ice, fill the mugs with the lukewarm-to-cool drink first, then insert ice so that the contents cool down gradually within the mugs. Metal spoons and utensils also may interact with the borosilicate glass and should not be used in the mugs. To retain a drink's heat for an even longer period of time, heat the mugs before adding the beverage. This set does not come with a manufacturer's warranty. Upon shipping, the mug set measures 5-2/5 by 3-9/10 by 5 inches and weighs 2 pounds.

We have had this a year or two. No durability issues thus far (while following all the warnings from the label). I will add a "comment" to this review, if this product has problems later on.
We have owned other types of Pyrex glassware for more years. These containers seem just slightly thinner than the Pyrex "Storage Deluxe" containers which are extra thick. Those Pyrex "Storage Deluxe" glass containers (with the white, oval vent tabs on the lids) have endured years of frequent use with no chips. However, we eventually had to replace some of those vented plastic lids. We were able to buy replacement lids from the manufacturer's shop world kitchen web site and/or phone number; they also have replacement lids for this non-vented type of storage container. I see that Pyrex recently came out with very similar rectangular containers with a different lid style, labeled "No Leak" -- those lids each have a vent tab which can be opened or closed. We have not yet tried that version. I don't know whether it is even available in a large, 11 cup size. If I were buying this again, I would consider that version. Anchor Hocking 3-Piece Mixing Bowl Set, Clear Review

Anchor Hocking 3-Piece Mixing Bowl Set, Clear
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I recently replaced a set of old, chipped mixing bowls, I wanted to go with American-made, durable, solid glass. I chose an inexpensive 3-piece Pyrex set but ended up very frustrated with those sloped sides and all of the associated splattering I got whenever I used my hand-held electric mixer. Christmas baking was the last straw. I ordered this Anchor Hocking set for 2 reasons - 1) It's made in the U.S.A., and 2) the sides are much steeper than in the Pyrex sets. I am thrilled with my purchase and am using these bowls for everything now. The Pyrex set is headed for the second-hand store!
*** Helpful Hint July 09 *** - This set doesn't come with the larger 4 qt. bowl, but you might be able to find it at Big Lots for a mere $5. (I did.) Also, I kept my smallest Pyrex bowl (with the sloped sides) because I sometimes set it over another pan of water to double-boil/melt chocolate for recipes. The sloped sides do give it the shallowness needed for double-boiling, but for EVERYTHING ELSE I use these Anchor Hocking mixing bowls. Also, the cracker jars made by Anchor Hocking are fabulous for pantry storage of just about everything - heavyweight glass and made in the U.S.A.!!!

BUYER BEWARE! DO NOT USE AROUND CHILDREN, WEAR PROTECTIVE CLOTHING IF USING. Go to this website: [...] It's full of people explaining the exact same dangerous situations that I had.
The following is the complaint that I sent to Anchor Hocking regarding their product.
My husband bought me three of your glass pans for Christmas 2009 in Woodburn, Oregon at one of the factory stores in the outlet mall. I've been using Pyrex brand glass dishes previous to this. I've used the dishes a few times for different meals and brownies with no issues, until last night. I put chicken breasts into one of the Anchor Hocking glass pans, the rectangle one about 7"x10" (approx), and put it into the oven set at 375 degrees. After 8 minutes, there was a loud explosion and my husband and I went rushing back into the kitchen to discover that the glass pan had exploded inside the oven, destroying our dinner and damaging the inside of our oven. There are hundreds of pieces of glass all over, and even after doing my best to clean it all up, I'm still finding shards of glass today, making it dangerous to use the oven. I've looked around online and found the consumer affairs website where it looks like this is a problem that has happened to MANY MANY people using your bakeware. Since this is a known issue, I'd like to know what you plan on doing to make this right. I will be throwing out all of my other pans from your company since I now know that they are not safe. THEY'RE NOT SAFE! I can't believe that you're making a product that is actually DANGEROUS! It's dishes for crying out loud, and they're actually UNSAFE! The following links will show you 8 pictures I took last night of the mess your company's product made.

I cannot believe this price at Amazon.com. Walmart sells 4 of these bowls packaged together, for 10 dollars.
These are very usable bowls. They go in the dishwasher and microwave oven. I use them a lot.
