To- Go Ware 2-Tier Stainless Lunch Box Review

To- Go Ware 2-Tier Stainless Lunch Box
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had this for 6 months now, and have generally not been impressed for the following reasons:
1.I'm not sure why, but the sides of the top container have split, ( Yes, the metal has actually split ), so liquids will leek out. I think this is because the clips are so tight
2.The clips are really tight on the top lid, and the lid jams on and is really difficult to get off ( have to twist and pull a lot ). This is the same as the other 2 star review here mentioned
3.Because it is made of metal, if you put anything hot in it, the Tiffin gets really hot, and the food will cool down quickly, so if you want to put hot food in it, I would not recommend it
I use mine every day to get food from the work cafeteria, so it gets a lot of use. But because of the splitting I have had to throw it away, and get something else

Aladdin 24-Ounce Micro Lunch Bowl, Grey Review

Aladdin 24-Ounce Micro Lunch Bowl, Grey
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As appetizing as eating a sandwich and chips for lunch can be, sometimes the leftovers from last night's dinner are even more scrumptious. I have used this food container for a few months. There are some advantages of this container, as compared to others; however, I've found that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages.
First, let's start with the advantages. It seems quite compact for the amount it can hold. One thing that I really like is that it has a removable, divided tray. If one wants to have two foods separated, the tray can be put in; however, if one wants to have a big bowl of soup or potpie, simply remove the tray. Another advantage is that it is microwave safe (without the lid on) and top rack dishwasher safe. Awesome. It does seem somewhat sturdy, as well, so it should be able to take a small beating. Or, in my experience, an accidental fall from the car onto concrete.
Now the disadvantages, of which there are only two. My first, and main, issue with this food container is that I have a terrible time trying to remove the lid at lunchtime. I will be the first to admit that I am nowhere close to the strongest man in the world, but when a coworker in the cube next to me asks why I'm making strange noises, it can be quite embarrassing. (That is, until he tries to take the lid off. Then it's funny.) It is very hard to grasp, so getting the stuck lid off is what gave this container a two star rating. The second issue that I have is that it does not keep the food hot for too long. Long commutes added to early starts to your days and normal lunch breaks (12 PM) makes eating the food after the 4 hour time limit difficult. This issue alone isn't too big of a deal, and would probably have resulted in a rating of four stars, as the container can be used for cold foods such as salads, pasta salads, or other cold foods. However, the stuck lid coupled with the cold food results in a two star rating.
Overall, if the stuck lid problem can be fixed and the food can be kept warm a little longer, this product would be awesome. If you have the strength of He-man or Wonder Woman, and you like food that can be eaten warm or cold for lunch, this container may be for you. Otherwise, you may want to compare this product with others before buying.

Kotobuki 2-Tiered Bento Box, Red/White Plum Review

Kotobuki 2-Tiered Bento Box, Red/White Plum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This box holds 580 ml which makes it rather small for an adult appetite. I'm not sure of the brand - there wasn't anything on the box (in English) which gave me a clue. It is a deep red color and the design is very elegant. I think it is WAY over priced though - which is the main reason I gave it 3 stars. You would do better ordering the Kotobuki 2-Tiered Bento Box, Black/Red Cherry (Sakura) Blossom which is larger, more sturdy, and more economical.

Whether heading off to work or school, this two-tiered bento box from Kotobuki adds both style and affordable practicality to your life, enabling you to pack a healthy lunch from home in its two containers. This classically shaped oblong bento box has a smooth red body that's highlighted by a simply illustrated motif of plum blossoms in tonal red and white, symbolizing longevity and beauty. It's further accented by white and tonal red blossoms on the side. The bento is composed of two compartments that stack on top of each other. The upper compartment seals shut with a fitted plastic lid and it doubles as a lid for the bottom compartment. The bento's illustrated lid then covers the top compartment, and an elastic band secures the two compartments together when traveling.
Traced historically back as far as the fifth century in Japan, bento boxes are carried today by everyone from school children to executives and are the ideal way to pack nutritious, travel-friendly meals. Kotubuki bento boxes are made in Japan of durable food-safe plastic. It measures approximately 6 by 3-3/4 by 3 inches. The top and bottom compartments are both microwave and dishwasher safe; the inner lid that covers the top compartment is not microwave safe and should be hand washed.

Lock & Lock 3.6 Cup Rectangular Storage with Trays Review

Lock and Lock 3.6 Cup Rectangular Storage with Trays
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I use this and an Emsa E503392 Clip and Close Shallow Rectangle Storage Container with 3 Inserts to pack my lunches for work - I like the dividers to separate out foods that I don't want to mix or leak into other items in my lunch, and I love that the seal and clips mean the lid won't leak or come loose in my purse on my commute. The volume and size is just about perfect for an adult's meal. If you like to pack bento style lunches, or just want to pack a variety of foods in a single container, this is a great product.
In the context of packing lunches, the only drawback is that I would prefer a container that is not quite so deep and had more length and width to hold the same volume. You kind of have to 'stack' food up to fill the depth of the container. The layout of the Emsa container linked above is perfect; however the material of the Lock & Lock container trays/inserts seems more durable than the Emsa, holds up better in the microwave and resists stains a little better. So the two are about equivalent for my purposes and I use them interchangeably.

Microwavable Lock & Lock Bento Lunch Box Set Dishwasher Safe Red - Spoon Fork Review

Microwavable Lock and Lock Bento Lunch Box Set Dishwasher Safe Red - Spoon Fork
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is probably my favorite container to take lunch in. I have a healthy appetite and I love to eat. This is TINY when it arrives. You will probably look at it and think it's way too small for an adult. It's truly perfect though, the rule is in general your calories should be around the same as the ml of your containers. This box holds 700ml. Not to sound sexist, but it's *probably* not enough for a man.
The bag it comes in is adorable and very functional as well. The cutlery set is divine as well!
I also have the three tiered version of this box and it's even better for breakfast AND lunch at work.

Urara Blue Dragonfly 2 Tier Japanese Bento Box Review

Urara Blue Dragonfly 2 Tier Japanese Bento Box
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this for myself as a birthday present a year ago when I wanted an inexpensive bento box. I absolutely love this one! It is really cute, and I bought a matching fork that fits under the top lid. Two things I would like to point out:
1) You NEED to buy, make, or find some kind of elastic band to hold the layers together tightly. The 2 tiers do not seal and will not stay together without it. This is not a container for really juicy or wet foods like soup. It is best to pack sauces in separate small containers and add at mealtime (tastes better that way anyway).
2) This will look way too small to you when you open it. Make sure you read online about how to properly pack a bento lunch before making judgments about the size. Packed correctly, this lunchbox will hold approximately a 580 calorie meal. This means the food will be packed snugly and strategically so that there is no air space left. I am a very tall person and this will pack a perfect sized lunch that prevents me from overeating and becoming lethargic at work.
The only reason I rated this as 4 stars instead of 5 is that I really think you need to buy additional accessories (at least an elastic band) to make it complete.
**UPDATE: Apparently this comes with a complimentary elastic band, although it is not shown. Problem solved! 5 stars. If possible, try to buy the matching small fork that fits under the lid. Very convenient and stylish.

black+blum Box Appetit Review

Average Reviews:

Bought my Box Appetit barely 2 months ago and up until now I've enjoyed using my Box Appetit.
Unfortunately, the lid on the triangle compartment no longer fits. I think it must've warped along with the triangle compartment itself, even though I followed the instructions to not heat the container beyond 2mins under medium power. Also one of the two snap fasteners on the lid broke off. And securing the lid to the container usually takes me at least 3 tries to get it to snap in.

I'm disappointed that this product barely lasted me 2 months.

Zojirushi SL-NCE09 Ms. Bento Stainless-Steel Vacuum Lunch Jar Review

Zojirushi SL-NCE09 Ms. Bento Stainless-Steel Vacuum Lunch Jar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I wouldn't call myself a lunchbox collector, but I do have a heafty variety of lunch boxes, both American and Asian. Everything from your typical Japanese lacquered bento box wrapped in a lovely koi furishiki to a Coleman insulated lunchbox and thermos. This, by far, is my favorite. Previously, I had purchased a Mr. Bento, and while I find that it is also a very nicely constructed set, it was just way too big. Though I loved the convenience and variety the Mr. Bento offered, I rarely used it because I would invariably find myself wondering what to put into each container. I looked at the Mini and Ms. Bento boxes before, but both lacked that essential soup bowl that really makes the Mr. Bento so functional.
Then Zojirishi came out with this new design and everything just fell into place. It retains the convenient divided dish and roomy carrying case of the Ms. Bento, the smaller three bowl design of the Mini, and the lovely soup bowl of the Mr. Bento. Just right!
The only tinge of regret was that it didn't come with the chopsticks that I'm so use to, but on second thought, it's not that big of a deal as I prefer my stainless steel chopsticks anyways. The carrying case isn't very feminine, despite its name, but I suppose it's so it can appeal to a variety of consumers. It is, however, nice and roomy, so I can fit in a small thermos alongside the Ms. Bento or throw in a small apple or dessert packet if I wanted to.

Zojirushi's Ms. Bento Lunch Jar is a great, efficient way to pack food. It keeps hot foods hot and cold foods cold for longer, making it an excellent way to safely and conveniently transport food to places where a microwave or a refrigerator may not be available. Made from stainless steel with vacuum insulation, the lunch jar is durable and will stand up to daily use. Equipped with three inner containers, each with a lid, the lunch jar offers ample storage for food. It also includes a forked spoon and a convenient carrying bag with loop handles. Each of the three containers is microwave safe, but lids are best left out of microwaves. A nonstick coated washable inner container makes it easy to keep the lunch jar clean.

Japanese Men Bento Box Lunch Box with Chopsticks Review

Japanese Men Bento Box Lunch Box with Chopsticks
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I decided to stop buying pre-packaged, sodium-stuffed microwave things for my work-lunch, I stumbled upon the concept of a bento box. I researched for a little while and decided I was going for it. This box was the perfect choice for me to start with! It's microwavable (lids off), dishwasher-safe (top rack), and can even be easily cleaned by hand with warm soapy water because it doesn't retain smells. The slick plastic lets go of food very easily. Even the chopsticks clean up well (once you get the white packaging tape off them, seen in the photos).
The two tiers hold a deceptively large amount of food. Before, I was always looking forlornly at the vending machine when I got done with whatever I brought for lunch. Now I am fully satisfied after eating and sticking to healthier food. I usually pack half of one tier with rice, the other half with stir-fry or whatever, and the other tier with veggies/salad and a small cup of fruit (single silicone baking cup works great: Wilton Heart Silicone Baking Cups, 12 Count). There's even a removable divider for the wider tier.
Yes, one tier is slightly wider than the other... because they can nest in each other! When you're done eating, the smaller tier fits inside the larger one, put the small lid on top, then the snap top on that, and snap it closed. It saves space when you're taking it back home.
Also, the compartment on top, where the chopsticks are kept, can also hold tiny containers with sauces. The soy sauce packets you get with delivery Chinese food fit pretty good (just 1), but I found a cuter idea. These tiny sauce containers (Sauce Containers #H4537 )hold just the right amount of soy sauce for the portions of food this bento holds! Two or three will fit in the top compartment.
Overall, I am thrilled with my purchase.
PS. For great bento recipes, I picked up this book and I'm very satisfied with that purchase as well: The Just Bento Cookbook: Everyday Lunches To Go

Zojirushi SL-JAE14 Mr. Bento Stainless Steel Lunch Jar Review

Zojirushi SL-JAE14 Mr. Bento Stainless Steel Lunch Jar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's a great "lunchbox" if you adapt your menu to it.
First the description
The lunchbox is a Thermos Jar with a non-insulated plastic top. There are four containers that fit into the jar in a specific order.
-The bottom container is a insulated bowl. It has a gasket sealed screw on top, insulated side walls and a small vent for pressure. The most insulative of the bunch it is designed for soup or other liquids
-The next container is the biggest. It has a slide and lock insulated top.
-The third container is notably smaller and has a Tupperware like pop top.
-The fourth container is smaller yet and has the same top.
You stack the containers in the jar and then clip the top on with little side clips. The whole thing then goes in a nice nylon carry bag that also has a pair of chopsticks in a narrow plastic box. There are little pockets on the side for extra sauce packets or condiments (or I-pod video's to watch while your eating lunch).
This unit is optimally designed for the Japanese style lunch. A soup, Rice, entrée and pickled/salted vegetables. Normally you'd put your soup in the bottom container, fill the middle container up with rice. Your entrée would go in the third and the veggies in the fourth. Since the soup and the rice container both have insulated tops they stay warm. The other containers are not insulated and neither is the top. This allows some heat coming off the bottom two containers to escape so that your veggies are at room temperature. Understanding this is important. Its not supposed to keep the entire meal at the same temperature. Its supposed to keep one part hot and the other part at room temperature.
I've found that in real use the soup container stays steaming hot. The stuff in the rice container stays warm (but not hot) the stuff in the top two containers heats up to room temperature, maybe a little bit more.
Naturally you don't have to use it as designed (soup/rice/entrée/veggie) but departures require a little bit adaptation and creativity. You need to balance both amounts and what you want to keep the hottest vs coolest. Also if you have access to a microwave at lunch it kind of makes this not quite as useful since you could just heat your food up there (as opposed to heating it up in the morning before you go). You could use the whole thing as a cooler (everything remains cold/cool till you heat up what you want). That might be a better way to go if your using it for the office.
The size of the room temperature containers is not large enough to handle American sized sandwiches and breads, so if your looking to take that traditional lunch box stuff this isn't the best unit for that.
If your looking to make the most of this unit you might check out some Bento Box cookbooks. They give receipies and menu sets more in line with what this is designed to handle. In particular I enjoyed the book "Bento Boxes" by Naomi Kijima
Bento Boxes: Japanese Meals on the Go
I'll cook something up out of that and thrown in a packet of instant miso soup for a Japanese style lunch.
Pros-
Compact and efficient use of space- It all goes in the tube, no bag full of different containers
Allows for two temperatures in the same container - Allows for flexible combinations
Lots of interesting comments from your co-workers
Cons-
Cleanup is a bit of a pain - Not dishwasher safe. The soup top is a little tricky at times.
Soft plastic will eventually pick up strong smells/Stains
Two temperatures in the same container - Requires a little creativity, doesn't keep everything uniformly hot/cold.
Conclusion-
As long as you understand how it works and adapt it's a great product. Might encourage you to cook a bit more healthy food and eat more vegetables.

...I wouldn't use this in the microwave. It clearly states it a "Microwave" set, but came with no material or verbiage stating its safety or lack of leaching chemicals. It looks like standard cheap plastic I would generally avoid heating up. That being said, I bought this for my boyfriend, who eats everything cold, so it's not a problem for him. It's a great size and shape for general lunch packing of generous portions, and the handle is a simple yet clever way to haul it around. Definitely a good choice for general storage.

This really holds the food HOT. My biggest critics are my kids and they love it. They can finally take hot pasta or soup to school and have a hot meal. But, you MUST follow the instructions. I recommend that you allow the BOILING HOT water to sit in the thermos for a minimum of 15 minutes. Keep in mind you must put piping hot food into the container. The kids tell me that when they open the thermos hot steam comes out and the food is nice and warm. I typically fill the thermos with food around 7:00am and the kids eat lunch anywhere from 12:15 to 1:00 pm. It really seems to work. This was worth the money!

CorningWare 1035985 French White 20-Ounce Mug Review

CorningWare 1035985 French White 20-Ounce Mug
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased these mugs for use at work. I have used regular bowls to boil water, heat canned soups, and similar items. I was always concerned with burning myself from the porcelain or from splashing as I walked back to my desk. I later upgraded to a bowl with a small handle as that was all I could find at the time. The handle got so hot I could not hold it with my bare hands but, if water splashed from soup, it would not go directly to my hands.
Then I found these cups. They have a large handle which makes them easier and safer to hold. This is a big improvement to me. The sides of the mug are virtually straight so, as I walk there is no "sloshing" of liquid contents. The rubber cover vents well and keeps any "pops" from making a mess in the company microwave. This also serves to contain the contents when I walk briskly since there is no way to splash or slosh the contents out. The cover also serves to contain the heat a little if I am interrupted while eating or, I put some Ramen noodles in it to rest and soften up.
The only complaints I have are relatively minor. The first is the lack of thermal mass. This may be a feature to some people in that it allows very hot things to cool faster but, when placed on a cool desktop in a gentle breeze from the air conditioner it will cool off too quickly for my personal preference. The other issue is the price. At ~$6 a piece and selling individually, they seem a little too expensive for what they are. I should note that this has not prevented me from buying some more of them though ;-)
For my use at work in an office, the white exterior looks professional and cleans easily. The straight sides with cover keep the mess to a very minimum. Finally, the lip on the mug lets me "drink" the last bits of soup or noodles without dribbling or looking silly. In a pinch, it will work as an extra large coffee cup as well. Overall, this a very good product for my use in the office or at the company microwave.
