I have owned a Miele cooktop which had to be repaired numerous times and sadly I decided to purchase a Miele Steam Oven which promptly broke down 2 months after purchase. Miele service sucks, the repairman were not friendly, they ordered parts and then never came back to install them and I had to call 2x to get them to come back. The people on the phone are not that great either. Their appliances look good but function poorly. BTW I also own a Miele dishwasher that isn't as good as the GE dishwasher I used to have, but at least it hasn't broken down (yet).

This is a FALSELY advertised item. Just like GE doesn't have to pay taxes, they think they can state "stainless steel" when the kit's cover is in fact made out of the cheapest plastic GE could find. Unless the previous kit, which was made from polished aluminum metal, this one is poorly made. What's more important, the kit is 3/4" lower than the previous, so if you are looking to replace anything, you may have to redo the cabinet window opening. If you don't mind staring at a fake blob of plastic that will for sure scratch in a day or two, go ahead. Otherwise, stay away and find another microwave with a better kit to install. Preferably of another brand.

Sharp 1.5 Cu. Ft. 900 Watt Countertop Convection / Microwave - Stainless Steel Review

Sharp 1.5 Cu. Ft. 900 Watt Countertop Convection / Microwave - Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We ordered this from Compact Appliance, which is apparently the same as Living Direct. At least the shipping notice came from Living Direct while our order confirmation came from Compact Appliance.
Delivery was prompt. The microwave arrived three says after we ordered it. It arrived by FedEx. The appliance's own carton was further packed into a larger box with styrofoam pads. The exterior box was undamaged, and the appliance was in perfect condition when we unpacked it. The manuals, turntable, and racks were packed inside the oven with styrofoam blocks to protect the interior surface. There was no damage anywhere and everything expected was present.
We placed the oven into the cabinet from which we had removed our 30-year-old GE microwave-only oven, which still works but with diminished power. We tested the microwave function of the new oven first with a cup of water, then with a small microwaved cake. Everything seemed to be working. Later I tested the mixed-mode cooking feature with an 8x8 peach coffee cake, using a recipe from the cookbook that came with the oven. That also worked well. It was cooked in a metal pan, which according to the manual is allowed in mixed-mode. One corner of the pan did spark slightly towards the end of the cooking, but the cake was cooked perfectly and nothing seemed to be damaged.
One note I wish to make is that the oven's controls are under a sheet of plexiglass, not glass as stated by some other reviewers. While this is still an advantage over unprotected numbers printed on the control surface, you will be disappointed if you really wanted glass. We are content with what we have got, and now it only remains to be seen if our unit has a decent lifetime. It is probably expecting too much that it last for 30 years. :D

We bought this model in January of 2009. Since that time it has been broken and unusable for approximately 4 months. The first time around it took four visits including a special trip by the regional repair manager to figure out the "wave guide" was faulty. This lead to a free replacement unit. They hauled the old one away to investigate the problem further. Shortly after this we found out our warranty was sold to another group - Bankers Warranty Group. Looking back, I wonder if this was done intentionally - knowing the huge problems this unit would have. The new unit worked for about a year before it had the problem with the unit powering off then on. It took 4 visits over two months for them to fix that issue. The unit worked for 4 months before showing the F7 error message. This means the Magnetron and Inverter must be replaced. This took 3 more visits. After replacing both parts the microwave still didn't work. They said another circuit board was blown but they had one locally that they could replace it with. They left the microwave in pieces to grab the part. After installing the new part they powered it up again to test it. The same part blew. They used a fiber-optic goose-neck tool to look into the wave guide. The same problem as the first unit. There is a little metal post that protrudes into the wave guide. Eventually the microwave radiation arcs off of this post causing the unit to fail. We have another 2 1/2 years under our extended warranty which is great and all except the wave guide is considered part of the cabinet which is not covered under the warranty. So at this point - Bankers Warranty Group will not pay to repair or replace our unit. We have a $900 kitchen timer hanging in our kitchen. I called Whirlpool to explain my frustration. This was met with the typical lack of care or empathy. They said it is outside of the manufacturers warranty so they can do nothing. I have researched lemon laws to see if it applies. Unless the same part malfunctions 4 times it is not covered. I can't afford to pay for a cabinet two more times. I am so mad I am screaming. Avoid this unit at all costs. When it was working it was the best microwave we ever had. But it is not worth $900 if it only lasts two years intermittently riddled with repairs. I wish I could get enough people together to file a class action lawsuit to force Whirlpool to refund our money. Shame on you Whirlpool!!!

Maytag : Over-The-Range Microwave Oven Review

Maytag : Over-The-Range Microwave Oven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this microwave just over a month ago from one of the larger home improvement stores. My condo is smallish, so I decided to go with this less expensive model. It worked fine the first few times I used it, but after running it for more than 4 minutes at a time, it would shut off completely. The display would not even light up. The power would eventually return after about a half hour or so.
As it is still covered under the manufacturer's warranty, I was able to arrange for free service through Maytag's website. The technician just left and told me that the problem was "poor design." Apparently, there isn't enough cooling for some of the internal parts when the microwave is being run for more than a few minutes. To remedy the situation, he suggested that whenever I had the oven on for an "extended" amount of time, I should turn the vent fan on high so that the internal parts can remain cool. The technician said that this was a problem with many brands of over the range microwaves in this price range including LG, Kenmore, etc. He did say that GE was likely the best brand to buy.
As I spent a significant amount of money and effort between the initial purchase and having it installed, I will keep the oven and just remember to run it with the vent fan on. It works fine otherwise.
Update: 1 Year Later
After the initial service call, the original problem of the microwave overheating and shutting off after about 4 minutes of use continued regardless of whether or not the fan was turned on.
Just before the 1 year warranty expired, I decided to try and have it serviced one more time. The service person determined that the problem was improper installation. I helped him pull down the microwave and then he was able to move the fan housing cover into the proper position for external venting, the instructions of which were actually printed on a sticker right next to the housing cover. Go figure!
I'm upgrading my rating on this because the microwave oven has been working perfectly since then. I can recommend it without reservation, but just make sure it's installed correctly.

After considerable research online, we chose this model of convection/microwave vent hood for our kitchen remodel.
WOW.
Let me reiterate.
WOW!
Being a 'car guy' automove similies seem to fit here, so I'll just say that this oven is like a balanced, blueprinted race motor in your kitchen. Sleek, powerful, responsive. We researched several vendors, and believe me, reviews and feedback are VERY important;and when ordered, the unit was delivered within 4 days. Packaging was secure and unit arrived without incident. Documentation was excellent, installation was straightforward and took less time than expected. Performance has been flawless, just as advertised. The controls are well thought out and logically placed. We really appreciate the multiple levels of lighting and fan speeds, and the accessories packaged with the unit all work well. Large interior volume makes for LOTS of options, touch screen menus are simple to navigate. The styling is both contemporary
and reminiscent of streamline moderne esthetics. The unit is quite heavy and will require at least two strong people to install, and the price is rather hefty, also. We feel, however, that we have gotten great value with this unit.

Sharp 1.5 cu.ft. 900-Watt Convection Microwave - White Review

Sharp 1.5 cu.ft. 900-Watt Convection Microwave - White
Average Reviews:

We had a Sharp microwave/convection oven that stopped working after ten years. It was built into a cabinet so we were happy to find this model which had the same dimensions and features. The first one we received had a dent in the side panel and the feet were not level. We sent that one back and asked for a replacement(very good service from Amazon). The second one again was not quite "square" and the door was slightly crooked. We decided not to send this one back and attributed the defects to poor workmanship. The door does not feel as solid as the old one and this new one in general seems to be poorly made. Let's see if this will last for ten years.

Not an objective review from the previous reviewer. That was an apparent "sick puppy" to begin with. It's obvious that the unit was not new from the get go or it still would have been under factory warranty.
Mine is now three years old. It looks spotless (thanks to me), and all functions perform perfectly. Only gripe is the preheat time for cooking in convection mode. Takes about 10 minutes to heat to 425-450 degrees. Not a deal breaker.

Sanyo EM-Z2100GS Microwave Oven with Built-In Grill, Black and Stainless Steel Review

Sanyo EM-Z2100GS Microwave Oven with Built-In Grill, Black and Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This microwave/toaster is great, but initially, people are going to complain about the toaster.
The heating element is on the roof of the oven, towards the back. To toast whatever you're toasting, Sanyo has you place an included metal grate on the rotating glass turntable to prop your toast thing upon. The grate is on legs, to raise the future toast towards the heat. Unless you're using Sanyo brand bread which must be 6 inches thick per slice, the set-up leaves you tooooo far away from the element. Here's the remedy.
Pull the glass turntable out. Place the metal grate on something about two inches high like a bowl turned upside down or bricks. You can also tape trimmed chop sticks to each leg for a more streamlined innovation.
Put your wanna-be toast on the grate towards the back of the oven and turn the thing on. Setting fire to four fish sticks on an eight minute setting, prompted me to write this review.

A microwave oven, browner and toasting oven all in one chassis! Microwave your food in the .8 cubic foot stainless steel interior using the 900 Watts of power or grill some chicken using the 1000 Watt built in quartz heating element or maybe you want to toast a bagel. You can do it all in this multi-use unit. A stainless steel front and handle give the unit a rich, elegant look while the tactile touch keys make it easy to get started. The 60 minute digital rotary timer lets you set your time as well as select one of the 9 preprogrammed menu functions. A large 12 3/8" turntable handles your extra large dinner plates. Two combination cooking keys lets you microwave and grill food such as steaks and fish that need cooking throughout but also a browning to the outside. Child lockout. A wire grilling rack is included.

Sharp SuperSteam Microwave Oven Review

Sharp SuperSteam Microwave Oven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off this is a VERY attractive appliance. The picture on the website does not do it justice, as weird as that may seem. It is substancial, well built, and looks and feels like something from a professional kitchen. Even though the measurements are documented, the oven just seems bigger. Personally, I think it's too big for a counter and would be best mounted into a unit. There could be some problems with mounting because you absolutely DO need the recommended space above, behind and to the sides - you can't get away with putting it up against anything if you plan on using the steam feature.
Good things:
The convention over works exactly as it should - I made a cake and it came out super-fluffy and perfectly cooked in and out, and very moist. Also made a sandwich and the bread was nice and crispy and the tomatoes inside were perfectly cooked. I made two chickens - one with the steam and one without. Both were good, but the one with the steam did get brown (lightly) and looked better, although they both tasted great and moist.
Microwave works fine. Downside is that there is no spinning wheel, so you have to stir and flip things around - AND - the microwave keeps stopping to tell you to do that. A bit annoying.
Although the job wheel feels very expensive and all the options are laid out well - I would prefer some buttons, espcially with the microwave. You can't just pop something in and start nuking. YOu have to press the microwave button and then use the wheel to go down one selection and then press enter and then use the wheel to spin to a time and then you can finally hit start. They should have moved that up one level to make it faster.
You get several well built pans and racks with this, which is very nice bonus.
The instructions are overwhelming, but when you actually go to use the oven, it makes sense.
Putting the water in for the steam function is very easy - a little box/cup thing comes out, you fill it and put it back in. done.
The auto sense microwave warming part works really well. I always want to doubt that it will work, but it actually does.
Overall it's a very intelligent unit, looks gorgeous and can completely replace your oven and microwave. Downside is that interface, which although it is slick, I don't much care for it and seems to require more thought than I care to put into microwaving something.
I would give it 4.5 stars because of that - but really it's a very nice oven.
One more thing - oddly enough, it does not put out excessive amounts of heat compared to your regular oven. You can open it during cooking and not get blasted by heat (although you should be careful). And cooking the chickens didn't heat up my whole kitchen or apartment like the oven usually does. The steam will kick up the humidity, but not that much.
Update - I wanted to add that I made a Flan recently and it came out perfectly. Usually I make it in a regular oven in a water bath. I skipped the water bath and just put it into the Sharp and chose convection oven - it came out perfectly cooked from edges to the middle! Anyone who has made a Flan will know how hard it is to get the center to cook correctly without overdoing the sides. I was pretty happy with this.

Bought this when our old panasonic microwave died. We have a frigidaire stove/oven that matches nicely. This unit is very loud buzzing and casing seemed to vibrate. I've tried the grill feature once and it smoked so badly with a strong chemical smell that I haven't bothered to try it again. Nice controls, stainless steel all around.

I bought this for my new kitchen renovation. I was getting rid of the huge vent above the stove and wanted a nice place for a microwave that would vent. You can use it to vent up and out, or it can recycle the air and let it flow back in the room. I'm using it for the latter. The fan is very loud, I find, but not so bad that I wouldn't use it. The microwave is nice and has a lot of nice features on it like quick start (also known as Add 30 Seconds). I would recommend it. You probably won't find a better one for a price like this.

Perfect for freeing up counter space, this over-the-range microwave oven supplies 1000 watts of power and a sophisticated look that will nicely compliment any kitchen decor. Its spacious 1-3/5-cubic-foot interior contains a round 12-2/3-inch turntable that helps heat food evenly, plus a bi-level cooking rack for cooking more food at the same time. The unit features 10 power levels, auto and rapid defrost, auto reheat, add 30 seconds, and more/less control, as well as hold warm for keeping food warm until it's ready to serve and a low-wattage melt/soften setting for making hard butter soft or for melting chocolate without boiling or scorching. In addition, the microwave oven comes equipped with a two-speed 300-CFM (cubic foot per minute) exhaust system with a hidden vent for reduced smoke and food odors caused by cooking. Other highlights include simple touchpad controls, an LED display, a clock and kitchen timer, a cooking-complete reminder, a child safety lock, an incandescent cooktop light, and a night light--great for those late-night snacks. Kalorik MW 26146 Steam Microwave Oven with Real Convection

I needed a new microwave and since I have limited space I liked that this oven served several purposes. I even waited a couple of months for it. I did try to find more info but found little on the internet and it wasn't available at a local store. My first impression when I opened it was how cheep it looked. The outside in mostly plastic. I worry each time I fill the water tank or empty the waste water tank that they will break and cost a fortune to replace. I haven't cleaned the steam generator yet but it requires decalcification every 20 uses and compartment is opening required a screwdriver. Cleaning instructions also direct cleaning 9 holes with a soft cloth & vinegar and I can't find the holes referred to. When I opened the door it scraped (I think the parts were not smooth finished). The controls are not intuitive and I find them difficult. The cooking instruction take up 19 pages. When I used the microwave function there was a annoying rattling noise. I contacted customer service via email and after suggesting several obvious causes they went to the warehouse to check and found it to be normal. When you microwave most things you are hit with steam when you open the door. Also the power is low so things take longer. I don't use the other items as often as I thought I would. It is just easier to do these functions the standard way. The convection function doest seem to save time. The inside cavity is not large and many item I use to use in the microwave I can no long use. The window is not as clear as the picture indicates. I would return it if I could. I will never buy another item online that costs this much without an unlimited satisfaction guarantee including shipping costs.
