(More customer reviews)Positives. The appearance is elegant. The shiny blackness of the bento looks fancier than the plastic that it is. The understated, somewhat abstract design of the hare running in a field under the moon is nice and not too cute -- important for those of us not wishing to send the wrong message. It comes with a red elastic belt (not pictured) to keep the bento together. This is a stylish way to bring lunch to office or school, and the bento can be microwaved. The shape also matters. It is not a flat box, but with two tiers it is more vertical, which means it can fit int your bag vertically more easily, which means less chance of spillage. It is small and space-saving.
Negatives. (1) The inside lid for the top tier stains easily. (2) Some other bento at this price range comes with chopsticks (sometimes in a built-in compartment) and a bag. (3) It is really not the cheapest bento, and hardly the biggest bang for the buck.
Potential issues. (1) The bento may be a bit small for medium to large men/women. Most other adults who lead a sedentary life can get away by packing every cubic inch very tightly with "dense" food (i.e., no penne with all that space in the middle). The upside is eating sensible portions. (2) The top lid is not airtight, so don't expect to put soup in there. The bottom tier is designed for rice, hence it is not airtight. If your lunch is analogous to the Japanese formula in some way, you're fine. (3) I suspect the dishwasher might eventually scratch off the design.

Whether heading off to work or school, this two-tiered bento box from Kotobuki adds both style and affordable practicality to your life, enabling you to pack a healthy lunch from home in its two containers. This classically shaped oblong bento box has a smooth black body that's highlighted by a simple line-drawn illustration in gold of a rabbit running through the reeds beneath a full moon. The bento is composed of two compartments that stack on top of each other. The upper compartment seals shut with a fitted plastic lid and it doubles as a lid for the bottom compartment. The bento's illustrated lid then covers the top compartment, and an elastic band secures the two compartments together when traveling.
Traced historically back as far as the fifth century in Japan, bento boxes are carried today by everyone from school children to executives and are the ideal way to pack nutritious, travel-friendly meals. Kotubuki bento boxes are made in Japan of durable food-safe plastic. It measures approximately 5-1/2 by 3-3/4 by 2-3/4 inches. The top and bottom compartments are both microwave and dishwasher safe; the inner lid that covers the top compartment is not microwave safe and should be hand washed.
