As much as I love these plates and that they are made in the USA I am extremely displeased at the condition in the center. They are beyond scratched/etched. At first I thought it was because of knife use (even then I don't understand why a knife would do that) but then I discovered that it is the dishwasher that is eating away the center. I am not sure if it is the cleaning agent or the dishwasher. It seems as if there is a samurai-wielding ninja in the dishwasher when they are being cleaned. This disappointed me and if anyone has a suggestion or thought on why this is happening it would be greatly appreciated. The dishwasher is a newer model and the plates are not knocking around. I can no longer use these for guests; luckily they were purchased for our personal use. Not sure why Anchor Hocking labels these as dishwasher safe if they truly aren't. If you want them for guest use than hand wash at all times. At first they were fine but repeated washings have left them less than pretty.These plates caught my eye a few days ago and I immediately ordered them because of their price! I am extremely pleased and excited that I "jumped" on the offer. The color is just gorgeous and when stacked together resembles the Anchor Hocking Cobalt Blue glass baking trays that I had ordered years ago from Amazon's competition. For a color reference, when each plate is separated/not stacked they are a shade lighter than Cobalt Blue. Truly beautiful for fans of "blue" ware. I have found that they look great next to my ultra white sets, clear plates and are a perfect match to[ASIN:B000P4FJSY Bormioli Rocco Murano 14-7/8-Ounce Cobalt Blue Beverage Glass, Set of 4]. I feel that it would set a very cohesive table and thus lives up to it's name of "Presence".
Now onto the quality... I find them to be of a nice weight. They are not overly heavy, but have a nice heft to them. An able bodied adult (not rheumatic) and older children would have no issues in carrying to the table. The bottoms are ALL even; meaning their is not bouncing or rocking when placed on a level counter or table. Recently, I have come across many reviews and have personally experienced some glass plates that "rock" lightly. An issue that I have discovered that is rather a moot point with myself is that the edges or rims are a tad uneven in one area of every plate. I can see that losing a star in some buyer's book! As plates of this kind, you have a rather round lip. As you trace the "lip" you will fall on a spot that is now not a rounded lip but rather an edge where there is a top and bottom. If anyone does not understand please do not hesitate to comment; the same applies for anyone that could more eloquently describe what I am trying to convey. I have noticed that in my Anchor Hocking trays as well. This makes them have a bit of a handcrafted look and makes them more beautiful. That is why I have suggested that they will flow well with the Bormioli Murano glasses. They have the very same appeal and admirers of that style would love these plates. There are no bubbles or imperfections besides the one that I have mentioned. I would be very happy to see more available pieces and even a square plate from this company.
They are dishwasher safe and microwave perfectly. They seem to be very durable as of now because I have banged them multiple times into the kitchen faucet and not one chip. If they are anything like my other Anchor Hocking products then you will be ultimately satisfied. Great quality AMERICAN MADE products, priced right, that not only last for years but that are abused daily, then these will be another winner in my cupboard.
Highly recommend to lovers & collectors of blue 'ware that especially appreciate a great quality steal! At this price point, you should snatch up a few sets.
