CIA Masters Collection 4-Cup Measuring Cup with Cover Review

(More customer reviews)This measuring cup replaces a 30 year old Tupperware 4 cup measuring cup. I previously purchased a Pyrex glass one but it was just too heavy and cumbersome...and so it just sits in the cupboard unused.
This CIA Masters cup is perfect. It is lightweight and well made. The measurement lines are easily visible...even to my presbyopic old eyes. The cover is an excellent idea. Leftover sauces and gravies can go right into the refrigerator. I use it as a "gravy boat", too. It's great for this because it can go right into the microwave to warm up the gravy for those that love second helpings. This is a great bridal shower gift, too. I highly recommend it.

(More customer reviews)I loved these for all the right reasons at first. What you see is what you get and quality of craftmanship seems high. However, after using them for a couple of months I have compared the measurements to my standard glass measuring cups and found that they are off significantly. To make sure I had some Kitchen Aid measuring cups, one that has combined measurements for both dry and liquid volumes. The smallest of the three in this set ("1 cup") said I had halfway between 2/3 and 3/4 cup of water. The KitchenAid and glass measuring cups both said I had exactly 2/3 cup.
This is significant for bakers, cooks, etc. who are relying on accurate measurements in the kitchen. If you wonder why your bread isn't baking right, or your cakes aren't moist enough, and you are using these cups, double check the measurement.

Pyrex Prepware 2-Quart Measuring Cup, Clear with Red Measurements Review

New measuring cups are heavier because it's NOT PYREX anymore! After 1998, when Corning Glass stopped making Pyrex. (Think fiberoptics and bankruptcy, etc.) They sold off their 'household' glassmaking and it reformed as World Kitchen. PYREX is borosilicate glass and very resistant to wear and chip and cracking due to exposure to heat or quick changes in temperature. This is why Pyrex and Kimax other borosilicate glasses are used for chemistry glassware. (Timex was to watches as these were to chemlabware! Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'!) Corning has licensed the name of 'Pyrex' to World Kitchen, but nothing else about it is 'corning glass'. (As an aside - Corning made great glass - of all kinds. A world-beater in their day. Management screwed them over going down the wrong economic road. Do check out their lovely glass museum in Corning, NY!) NOW, World Kitchen makes their 'pyrex' measuring cups out of ordinary soda-lime glass (kitchen drinking glass type). This is NOT safe to expose to heat changes!!!! (Think wear safety goggles - like you WERE working in a CHEM LAB!) I suspect that soda-lime glass is denser than borosilicate, but the actual measure wall thickness may be different now than before, and, thus, this accounts for some of the weight difference. If you want my opinion - find 'vintage' Pyrex Measuring Cups somehow and they will last multiple lifetimes. I have one of my mom's and she has two of her mom's measures. My new ones cannot hold a candle to the old ones (30 to 60 years old) and aren't worth a tinker's damn. Happy times in the kitchen!

(More customer reviews)Pyrex is always the best! This enormous measuring cup is great for melting in the microwave and for a homemade double boiler in any pot. The lid is a hard plastic top with flexible sides that seal up tight so you can use it to store things in the fridge and to carry things places. Also the cover is safe for both freezer and microwave use (but not the oven) and is dishwasher safe in the top rack. The cover has three pouring choices, a regular pour spout, a slotted spout, and a spout with seven little holes. An extremely useful item to have in the kitchen!

(More customer reviews)At first I loved the Zyliss Mix-N-Measure Stackable Measuring Cup Set with Lid. It's attractive, it stacks, it pours well, and it's light weight. I have not used the lid, however I appreciate the inclusion as it would be useful for some people I'm sure. Now that I've had the set about six month, I am noticing that the red lettering (which is a little hard to see anyway) is wearing off. Up until now, my biggest complaint would be the red lettering. But I can see that the set will eventually be useless as far as accurate measuring is concerned. I'm very disappointed as I looked around a long time before choosing this set, which was not inexpensive. Also be aware that it cannot be washed in the dishwasher, nor can it go into a microwave. Needing to handwash was okay with me, but the microwave restriction was limiting.

The one big selling point that this brand of measuring cups has over Pyrex is that both the metric and English units are shown on both side of the cup. For years, I had to bake with a Pyrex cup which only shows the metric units on the right side. Since I'm right handed, when I pour in something to get measured, I position the cup with its handle to the left, leaving room for me to pour in from the right. But that meant the side of the cup facing me showed ml instead of cups in units. That used to drive me crazy. Now that I have the Anchor cup, I haven't looks back since.

It seemed pretty monofunctional, but I didn't care - it was for fun, right? But this has turned out to be one of my favorite kitchen tools! It's a million times easer to use than measuring spoons, and it seems to be significantly more accurate, which is important for the exacting science that is baking. What's more, instead of having to wash three or four measuring spoons (all dripping milk, vanilla, or orange juice concentrate all over your cooking space), you just have one little cup to wash! Anyone who cooks on a regular basis should have one of these, and everyone who enjoys cooking, even if infrequently, will wonder how they ever lived without it!

(More customer reviews)I must be getting old, as today I dropped my Pyrex 1 Quart Measuring Cup from a cupboard about 10 feet up and guess what, it didn't break, and I was very excited! I've bought dozens of measuring cups over the years and have managed to melt, break, tarnish and mutilate each and every one of them. This one seems to be up to the challenge. I've used it to melt butter and left it in the microwave too long, washed it a dozen times in the dishwasher, used a whisk in it (I love the sheer size of this thing!). Not a scratch on it! I know, I know, it's just a measuring cup. But quality does matter, and this one is top notch!

Kitchen Supply 2 Quart Glass Batter Bowl With Lid Review

(More customer reviews)I've had this bowl and lid for Years, using it multiple times a week while raising my children, routinely using it in the microwave, and always running it through the dishwasher. After many years, the dishwasher has left its etching, but the bowl is rock solid and the measurement lines are still clearly visible. Even the plastic lid is still in good shape!
