Pomaireware Clay Tortilla Warmer, Small, Review

(More customer reviews)This product arrived with a lid which grossly did not fit the pan. I finally got it to somewhat fit using a bench grinder. The whole point of clay pots is that you can steam food inside, and this means the lid must fit the pan pretty well. There is always some variation ("character" they call it) in hand made clay pots, but this is too much. The packing boxes gave evidence of having been packed in Mexico or Central America (the nature of the box and the use of woodshavings rather than the more expensive -- and ecologically damaging-- bubblewrap) and the problem is probably quality control at the packing source. You can pick up a tortilla warmer and other clay pots at any Mexican stall market for 5-$10, tops. Some will have good fitting tops, others not. So you look at the wares and bargain. The whole point of buying from an importer and paying a really steep markup (especially since NAFTA) is that you expect that they will do the quality control for you.
Well, not in my case anyway. Other reviewers have found these products excellent. Maybe I was just unlucky. But be prepared to send it back if the lit doesn't fit pretty tight. Otherwise, it is not bad (and lead free), unless you are planning a trip to Mexico. Then buy your own and have some fun haggling.
Update on this review: I sent an email to the distributor regarding the bad fit after I had written the review. They called me within two hours and offered to replace the unit. He said that they did sometimes have quality control problems with the manufacturer in Chile (not Mexico as I had assumed). They sent me a well fittng replacement very quickly, and I am totally satisfied. I would raise my rating to fourstars.

CorningWare 2.5-qt. Oval Casserole with Lid - French White Review

(More customer reviews)The original "French White" Corningware was made of their famous pyroceramic glass, which could be used on the gas stove, put directly in the freezer, put under the broiler right from the freezer, and oh yes, also used in a microwave. And it was very unlikely to shatter if dropped. If you pounded on it with a hammer and nail you might have gotten it to break.
When World Kitchens bought the license from Corning, they decided to halt production of a line of cookware that would take anything and last forever, and dupe customers, especially brides, into thinking the stoneware "French White" was the same thing as the wonderful French White pyroceramic cookware previously available.
The pattern is attractive and can be used with any decor, but this stuff is not, repeat, really not, what people mean when they say "Corningware."
Le Creuset can do most of the above mentioned, but it being metal you cannot use it in the microwave. Stoneware cannot go on top of the stove, and repeated trips from the freezer to the oven will eventually cause it to craze and crack. And being stoneware, it will also chip, and break if dropped, etc. Pyrex glassware cannot go on the gas stove although you can take it from the freezer to the oven, and also microwave it.
The only product which could do anything was pyroceramic, and World Kitchens has chosen to remove it from the market because it is "too good."
They have recently brought back a few of the old square shapes, with the Cornflower, or plain white, calling it "vintage," but the French White shape is not making an appearance yet. If you want it, email them and ask for it!
Meanwhile, get Le Creuset for stovetop cooking and roasting (yes it is expensive but it lasts forever and cooks beautifully), and reheat things in Pyrex in the microwave.

Lock & Lock 6 Piece Bowl Storage Set Review

(More customer reviews)My local grocer gave these away as a promotion. They really are great bowls--heavy duty construction, locking lids--all very nice.
The instructions on the lid said to remove it before microwaving. So I unhooked the lid from the bowl, and removed it. Then, to keep the contents from popping all over the microwave, I loosely laid the lid on top of the bowl. This was a huge mistake.
Microwaving it that way forced the lid to cave in on the bowl, creating a suction so strong that I couldn't remove the lid at all. This then turned the bowl into a pressure cooker that kept heating the contents even 5 minutes after I took it out of the microwave. 10 minutes later, the pressure caused the bowl to start caving in on itself.

The shipping time was great though when i opened the package I was a little disappointed in the size of the pan. (More customer reviews)I bought a 12 cup, two 8 cup, and 4 two cup Anchor Hocking glass storage containers. They would be terrific if the lids/containers were level. Instead, the lids teeter-totter on top of the containers, on some as much as 1/4". Some are better than others, but none of them fit right.
Its really not that difficult to manufacture items that are straight/level, and I resent being sold obviously defective items that are not advertised as such.
I will not purchase another Anchor Hocking product.

Coat Rack/Stand in Satin Black Metal Spider Style Review

(More customer reviews)I assembled it the moment I got it and was very pleased. Very easy to assemble, with all the pieces fitting together perfectly. I have several winter coats on it and it's very solid, looks low key but stylish/classy, and a decent weight (doesn't tip over easily). The metal quality seems good and it seems like it should last a long time. At ~$20, it's unbeatable.
HOWEVER- There is a SLIGHT deviation from the actual appearance and the appearance of it in the photo. The photo makes the four spokes at the top look as though they come straight up, which they don't. They actually come out at an angle which actually looks much more aesthetically pleasing, to me. One appearance deviation I'm actually thankful for.
