(More customer reviews)I bought this Bosch over the range microwave to match my 500 series gas range. Being a frequent internet shopper, I tend to get long winded in my reviews. However, I'll make this review short and sweet.
Over the range microwaves seen to cost at least 2x the amount of similar counter top models. In my case, I had a stainless steel 1300W Panasonic (counter top) model received as a wedding gift. It commonly sold for 1/4 to 1/3 the cost of this Bosch. For my needs (which basically consist of heating water or reheating take out food) I don't have much to distinguish one microwave from the next. Granted, the over the range models have some structural differences to permit cabinet/wall mounting, but I can't explain the massive price disparity apart from the inflated price simply being "what the market will bear".
I bought the Bosch for 2 reasons:
(1) It matched my Bosch 500 series gas range.
(2) By combining this microwave with the range and a Bosch dishwasher, we received a package savings (via a since expired factory promo) that offset most of the premium associated with buying a Bosch appliance over a cheaper GE, Whirlpool, LG, Samsung, Kenmore, etc.
I don't regret buying this appliance, and I don't have a problem with companies charging what the market will bear. However, I do wonder what benefit a cooking enthusiast will derive from such an expensive microwave (and I feel compelled to frame my review in this context). If one buys the Bosch appliances to match this microwave (I did and I really see little point in spending this kind of money unless one is trying to match a kitchen suite), I have a hard time imagining what use this product has in an enthusiast's kitchen.
I'm not talking anyone out of buying this microwave (I did and I don't regret it), but I do feel compelled to point out that I don't see much return on investment apart from aesthetics (and even at that, I don't know that I consider it extremely attractive as much as I like the fact that it matches my other appliances). Please take my review for what it's worth. I recognize that I didn't discuss the effectiveness of all the different "rice", "vegetable", "popcorn", etc cooking modes. However, I think larger concerns for most microwave buyers, particularly those of (somewhat) higher end kitchen gear, will be (1) does it heat water or reheat food quickly and evenly and (2) will it be reliable.
I can attest that this microwave heats beverages well and reheated some leftover pizza evenly while I was working in our newly furbished house. I can't attest to reliability as I haven't had it long enough. I'm really not trying to sound like a snob, but as I thought my way though this review, the only other use I could fathom for this microwave might be to melt something in the future (soften butter, melt chocolate, etc).
PS - If anyone out there is actually using their microwave as a cooking device, I'd be happy to experiment (1) as a cooking enthusiast and (2) to update my review accordingly. Please share any input to this effect (and I hope that doesn't sound snide as that's not my intent!).

(More customer reviews)The product itself is excellent. Pro grade nuker, that maintains flavor and moisture of food, unlike consumer grade that tends to dry and leave food bland. Negative: After trying to register the product online the website was no longer active. Then I tried registering the product (warranty purposes) via the enclosed warranty card. The card was returned by the post office as an undeliverable address. Things that make you go hmmmmm.......
Here's hoping the nuker is also pro grade in regards to life. Buyer beware.

(More customer reviews)bought this b/c some stuff you just can't do in a microwave, like bake, roast etc.... i'm not much of a chef, but needed something more than a microwave that saved some space. checked a few different combo units (ie, cusinart also makes one) but decided on the sharp. it microwaves fine, a microwave is a microwave! tho actually i have burned some popcorn with it, even tho i use the popcorn setting. i haven't done anything as big as roasted a chicken in it, but because i have some gourmets in the family who actually want to do that, as well as bake, it's nice to know you can do that in this. the one "baking" thing i have done is make a rising crust pizza (frozen, store bought) in this. i did notice that after preheating the oven for whatever like 9 minutes, per the pizza instructions, the oven didn't really seem that hot. it said to bake the pizza for 13. i did, it wasn't fully baked, so i kept it in another 3 minutes and that did the trick. definitely felt and tasted like baked oven pizza not microwave so again, yes very nice to have these features and the baking option. i do know one family member used it to bake cookies, and he always complains if something doesn't come out right. he didn't complain, so i guess it must actually bake cookies well too. all in all, you can't expect all-in-one combo machines to do everything perfect and right, but this definitely does a good job, which is why i ended up buying a second......

(More customer reviews)I live in a small downtown unit in San Francisco, so anything that takes up space has to earn it's living. This unit is now the only "oven" I use, and it's wonderful. I see many complain about how long it takes to "heat up," but that's a misunderstanding of using convection heat. Just put whatever you want to cook in the oven--cakes, breads, lasagna, etc.--and it will cook as the oven heats. Because of the convection, there are no "hot spots" and nothing will burn. The only adjustment is the cooking time, but that can be gauged with a little practice. Easy to clean, makes wonderful toast, pies, fresh breads and roast cuts of meat.... I don't know what I'd do without this. The microwave is very flexible and easy to use with many different choices on the control panel.

Sharp 1-1/2-Cubic-Foot 900-Watt Convection Microwaves Review

(More customer reviews)Wow, after reading the other reviews I had to throw my 2 cents in. It's big all right but that's the only point I have in agreement with the other reviewers.
I've had the R-930CS for almost a year. It really lives up to what Sharp says it does. It bakes, broils and microwaves -- all well! I use it to cook meat and it's done a great job on steaks, fresh sausage and chicken.
It also has a nifty feature called Sensor Cook, which is intelligent microwaving. It works for a number of foods including vegetables, frozen entrees and hot dogs. I use it for hot dogs, actually frozen hot dogs. I had no idea how long to cook a frozen hot dog. Not a problem. Slap a couple on a plate, hit Sensor Cook - Hot Dog and the oven does the rest. They come out perfect.
Would I get this oven if I just needed a microwave? Of course not. ( I'm not even sure what you use a 1.5 cubic foot microwave for.) But if you need a microwave and a regular oven all in a countertop package, the R-930CS is great.
The cleanup of this oven is easy too. None of the horror stories from the early generation microwave convection combos. This one is stainless steel on the inside. No protruding parts. It (so far) cleans up with a damp paper towels or sometimes with a bit of dishwashing liquid.

(More customer reviews)This is a very user friendly microwave. If you only use the microwave function, I am sure you'd be happy with it. But it's also a handy little oven. I have made pizzas, cookies, and even a pork loin roast in it! I cooked the pork loin using the combo cooking function (microwave plus convection) just to test it out. The results were very good; a nice moist roast. A 14-in round pizza pan or stone fits in it and also (just barely!) a 9x13 baking dish. And yes, you CAN put metal pans in it when in oven mode. When we first got it we set it up on the counter in our main kitchen for a couple weeks and played around with it. Then we moved it to our newly renovated "bar" in the basement which truthfully is a small, very functional kitchen. This oven is a great solution as we can use it for popcorn, etc. in microwave mode, but also bake pizzas. Another idea I haven't actually done yet is to use it to bake or warm a casserole for a big holiday dinner when my main oven is busy cooking a turkey or something. In fact I like this oven so much I've decided that when we renovate the main kitchen I am NOT going to opt for the double wall ovens but instead get a regular range plus another one of these and then I will have 2 ovens plus a microwave, basically! I think it's a wise investment and a very excellent product.

(More customer reviews)I acquired this microwave when I was moving to a flat with limited kitchen space, and my primary reason for the choice was that the Sharp model was multi-functional. Since I've begun using it, I happily have ceased to sing a requiem for the toaster oven, separate grill, and other items I was 'consolidating' in this purchase.
I have used the Sharp microwave for grilling and roasting, as well as normal microwave functions, and the results are better than I could have expected. Grilled and roasted foods are extremely tender and juicy - at least of the quality one could expect from a conventional oven. I have had similar success with cooking vegetables.
Reheating muffins and breads has amazing results - they seem fresh baked and, unlike breads normally heated in a microwave, do not harden in a minute. I have used the convection feature for preparing breads, and had especially stunning results with preparing a frozen chicken pie. I suppose the surrounding air from the convection oven was the reason, but it seemed like a fresh-baked meat pie.
There are a few drawbacks, which would not compromise my five star rating because of the great versatility and high quality of the unit overall. The 'auto' roast, defrost, and grill features are very convenient, as is the prompting (telling one when to turn over the meat, for example), but they are very limited in the weight restrictions. For example, if one is defrosting ground meat, it has to be a certain weight - significantly more than that of a single hamburger. Though grills and roasts would mostly fit in to the specifications, this is a drawback for defrosting, where one must estimate times and key them in manually.
Another difficulty I have experienced, when grilling on the rack, is that drippings which fall either on to the carousel tray or a pan placed under the meat can become badly burnt and baked on. This was slightly disappointing for my intentions of preparing gravies on the side. My single attempt to do so meant I had to soak the pan overnight and then scrape. The grilling results are wonderful, as far as the effect on the meats, but there is a great deal of smoke generated. Whenever I grill, it sets off the smoke alarm - probably best to roast, then only grill at the end.
I would advise anyone purchasing this microwave to read the manual in full. The capabilities will not be realised otherwise. I actually use the unit less for 'standard microwaving' than for its other features.
One further comment: the Sharp microwave cookbook, which is advertised in the manual for the unit, is useful but not specific to the multi-functional machine. It contains only microwave recipes - none for grilling, roasting, or convection.
Overall, and considering that it can replace several appliances, this microwave is an extraordinary value.
