You can use them for everything from steaming vegetables (they have vented covers), heating soup, warming sauces, or storing and reheating leftovers. The bowls never get the least bit hot, and are so versatile going from fridge to microwave to dishwasher. I was so pleased with the first set, I ordered another and am thinking of expanding my collection.
The purple bowl holds a family size serving of vegetables, and the orange bowl is large enough to hold a whole a can of soup.

(More customer reviews)This microwave sauce pan is a nice size for heating a can of soup or vegetables in the microwave, or for heating water for tea. It is small enough that it will fit in even the small size microwave ovens on the rotating glass tray. You just need to put it on the tray off center. The pan is six inches in diameter, and the handle sticks out an extra three inches. It is 3-3/4" tall. It does not come with a cover, but you can improvise with a small Corning plate or other microwave-safe cover.
