(More customer reviews)We bought this to replace a Rowenta toaster that was also long and narrow, but never worked well. Our choices were limited as it needed to fit in a narrow space behind our cooktop.
This looks lovely in the kitchen and toasts evenly. The variety of settings works well for various breads, although it will take some practice with different bread types to see which setting is best for each. The default setting is fine for standard bread. Crank it up for bagels or rye bread.
In response to another review, the toaster doesn't wait 10 seconds before starting to toast. It gives you 10 seconds to change the setting after putting the bread in, but it begins to heat right away.
We are very satisfied with this toaster compared to the four times more expensive Rowenta that was horrible!

Sunbeam 3819 2-Slice Wide Slot Toaster, Red Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this toaster because I wanted something cheap and basic. Little did I know how bad a toaster could be.
The slots on this toaster are so narrow that anything except Wonderbread won't fit. Since I don't eat Wonderbread, that means every time I put a piece of bread in, it's at a weird canted angle and a quarter of it is actually sticking out from the toaster.
The electric cord is barely longer than the toaster itself, which means I either have to get an extension to reach the outlet -- which is less than two feet away -- or turn the toaster backwards since the cord comes out of the front. A very poor design indeed.
To top it off, the burn is uneven. The inside gets burned and the outside gets nothing.
Again: DO NOT BUY THIS TOASTER.

(More customer reviews)Just bought this toaster for $20, just because I liked the way it looked. Manual said set dial at 4 for reg. bread, but that burned it quickly + stunk up the whole house. Had to unplug to stop heating. Toasted thin bread on lowest setting + still burned. Made in China. Defective?
Called Black + Decker C.S. + waited a very long time for rude/nasty rep. named Diamond, who wanted # off metal part of elec. prong--042-EH. They're sending me another toaster. Bad reviews here about burning but will try another one.
Have looked at all black toasters online, and only other one I liked the look of was Kitchen Aid at about $40. Unfortunately, many reviews say it won't toast on even the highest setting. What? What's going on here? Can't anything be made right anymore? Where's quality control?
