We decided to get a toaster oven to save heating up the large oven. We cook quite a bit, and were willing to buy what we wanted. Ended up looking at about 25 online and maybe a dozen in the stores. We were leaning toward the Hamilton beach model due to it's larger size and convection feature. We ended up with the kitchenAid due to the toaster and warmer feature. I think I would have been happy with either. The KA is quite heavy for it's size and seems well built. It is larger inside than it looks. It will easily hold a 3 quart casserole dish. It makes good toast, although it does take about 4-5 minutes. At least it does 6 slices at once. It is perfect for baking. It preheats in 5 minutes(the Hamilton Beach was reported to take up to 15 minutes). I have read about heat concerns on most toaster ovens so I put a thermometer on the outside and it gets to about 130 degrees when baking at 350. I thought that was within reason. I have to say it is a really good looking appliance. I can't speak to the durability, but if it holds up, I will be really happy.

Black & Decker TRO420 Toast-R-Oven 4-Slice Countertop Oven/Broiler Review

I read lots and lots of reviews of toaster ovens before I bought. But it seems that very few people out there like the toaster oven they have. The ones with the highest ratings were only available online - and in some cases the shipping was almost as much as the toaster!
I got this one at a local store - on sale. It is a nice compact size for the counter, yet seems to have plenty of space inside. Toasts very even (several settings - chose medium the first time and worked perfect). It has a timer so there is a bell when the toast is finished.
I also like the fact that when you use the oven, you also can set a timer. My previous one did not have this and many times I would forget to shut it off and it would run for hours (very dangerous).
I am very pleased with this toaster oven overall -- it does the job it is supposed to and is a great value for the money.

Equipped with a spacious easy-to-clean interior, this versatile toaster oven can toast up to four slices of bread at a time, as well as bake, broil, and reheat a variety of foods quickly and easily. Its user-friendly control panel provides two simple knobs: one for setting the 30-minute timer (or the stay-on function) or for adjusting the toast shade from light to dark, and one for setting the temperature up to 450 degrees F or to "broil". Use the countertop oven for making breakfast toast or frozen waffles; broiling a small chicken; baking blueberry muffins, a cheese pizza, or a vegetable side dish; and much more. Other highlights include a "power on" indicator light, a see-through glass door for checking on food at a glance, a generous stay-cool door handle, and a sleek design that will nicely accommodate any kitchen decor. Its slide-out crumb tray makes cleanup a snap, and a broil rack and bake pan come included. The toaster oven/broiler measures 19 by 10-8/9 by 12-1/2 inches.
