(More customer reviews)There are two serious design flaws in this unit, and GE won't own either of them. First, the metal handle on the microwave gets really hot when you have things cooking on the stove, and I mean you-need-a-potholder-to-open hot. Secondly, and much more problematic, the touchscreen can't handle heat and/or moisture and shorts out. You would think an appliance designed to be installed "over the range" might actually be able to function in this environment. (It's actually installed over the matching GE Cafe gas range, so compatibility should not be a problem.)
Our first touchpad fried in less than two weeks and the store gave us a replacement microwave without complaint. Had to install it myself -- again. Then the touchscreen shorted again a few months later, but after waiting for days for a service call, it started working again when the tech arrived. He refused to do anything, since it was working fine at that time. But of course, it has shorted out once again.
If GE would acknowledge that something is wrong in the design and provide an upgraded touchpad, that would be fine. But I suspect that they plan to keep replacing the touchpads until we run out of our extended warranty and then we'll be left high and dry.
Don't think I'll buy anything from GE again.
