This is MY review plus some others... Hope it helps.
Microwave looks nice -high praise for it. Nice Price ($240).
Lightweight and most homeowners found easy install.
Others liked the size..Depth...not too far out from wall...but still very roomy.
The timer works separate (Not like some, where you can only microwave or set a timer).
We liked the wide rectangle pan and think we will NEVER need the metal shelf since we can cook bacon right on the shelf. That is a major plus. This will accommodate like a 9 by 13 pan..maybe larger.
I liked the hidden grill at the top & a stainless interior sounded nice.
It has demo mode to help you learn the menu. If you tell it when you clean the grill last it will remind you. You can turn sound off..and turn off the turntable.
No it is NOT as intuitive as our old GE & does not have 1-6 minute instant start. ....but it does have the add 30 seconds button for an instant one button start. I set the clock easily. It has sensors and many features some folks might like.
There is a scrolling menu. To soften or melt butter (chocolate) etc. mode..you hit "soften" button...then select 1 or 2 [the rolling screen tells you]. That may be a neat feature. It has buttons for reheat and warm. It has fast defrost. Some of the features may not work as well as intended...like one minute defrost on frozen hamburger did not thaw completely...But it is there..and there is a regular defrost..and they have selections for different meats. It may take more buttons than the old one. Like to hit "end". So far I am ok with it.
The interior light may not be much..in the front corner...BUT there is large viewable interior, larger than many. It is 1000 watts...& may be more like 1.6 cubic feet (vs advertised). But seems huge and very open.
Control Light is orange & very readable even from a distance. It has four light levels...including a programmable night light.
It comes with charcoal filter installed.
Some folks had issues. Purely as a vent hood (venting inside) or as a stove light, for some it falls short. Manual is limited, only 8 pages. I found no fault with the info. manual included. It gives simple instructions on what cleaning products to use for each component & if they go in the dishwasher. PLUS it did come with a nifty one page laminated cheat sheet of directions. For now...I folded two pages from the "manual" and put in plastic, plus the cheat sheet..posted on the side of the refrigerator.
A similar Maytag model MMV5201 had good reviews & was tested by the experts at consumer search and received good rating from the experts. [...]
Here are some of the other reviews: (edited)
"Been using for 6 months, works incredibly well. Sensor cook is great for reheating, the rectangular rotation plate allows for much larger dishes to be used in it and does a very good job of evenly heating or reheating. The full 2 cubic feet of space is also very nice for accommodating large or odd shaped dishes. In a nutshell, we love it."
"Frankly, I love this microwave. The stainless steel interior is much easier to clean and the sensors seem to heat appropriately. However, if you love microwave popcorn, DO NOT buy this microwave. Not all kernals popped."
"Hello, I just installed this unit. The keypad and functions are great. The base plate gyrates as opposed to round rotation. This unit is larger than my 3 year old microwave and weighs less. The cooking and ventilation operation is excellent. Highly recommend."
"The microwave works very well and the installation was fairly easy... my husband and I installed it. The only thing I am disappointed in is the light. I actually bought it, not only to free up counter space, but to have a light over the stove while cooking. The light is located at the back of the unit, toward the wall and only lights up the back of the stove where the controls are... not the burners. It didn't help with the light issue but it is a very nice microwave."
"The Maytag Microhood we purchased is great! The microwave has many shortcut buttons that make it easy to use. The exhaust fan is strong and does a great job. Installation was easy, which is always a plus. Love it! "
"Maytag Microwave rocks. Was totally impressed with the functions and usage".
"The unit works well. Installation was very easy and it looks good."
"it leaves a clean & sleek impression on prospective home buyers. I shopped around and this Maytag model is definitely a leader in that area among others."
"Well, just like the fridge and stove, bought this product because of it being American made. I am very happy with the finish of this product and the internal size of it."
"I really like the look and feel especially the elegant handle."
According to one site which compiles reviews, 52 users rated (this series) 91/100..versus 79/100 for microwaves in total. From April 2007 through August 2010, this microwave had 50 positive reviews and only 2 negative reviews. The two negatives were two out of five stars.
Two stars out of Five.
"This oven cooks just fine and looks very nice. The reason for only 2 stars? The cooking light is extremely dim and unsuitable for cooking. After the we installed the microwave I started to cook on my stove top and turned on the microwave cooking light on high, expecting to be illuminated. I was disappointed. There is one small bulb all the way in the back of the unit. What little light there was was not even shining on my stove top, but rather toward the wall behind it. Hard to believe that someone at Maytag designed it this way on purpose. If you don't care about light, this microwave will probably work for you. I do and it doesn't."
Another two star review said "the venting on this 220cfm unit is pathetic".
THIS unit is 300 CFM. So apparently the reviews are not all the same model.

A three star review said the door steamed up first use and took two hours to clear.
Overall there were not many reviews. BUT the reviews were usually very positive.
The problems generally seemed minor. This Maytag Seemed MUCH better than MOST microwaves...these days.
If you are looking for a new oven because your old one is faulty. This is a troubleshooting guide:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r5508031-microwave_oven_basic_troubleshooting
One thing to do is keep the microwave clean...including the top of the brackets that hold the tray...and the filters. You can steam a little lemon in water in the microwave to make it easier to clean. MY Microwave says the glass rack is dishwasher safe. Good to know.
There is a guy in NE Indiana that repairs the circuitry...He show you how to disconnect and mail in.
Finally if you want one NOW...not all the stores have them in stock. Some outlet stores have discounted models and GE (shudder) has an online store. Many charities will NOT take microwaves and none take broken ones. Some companies will deliver and cart off the old one.
(But you must uninstall). If you uninstall keep the bracket...until you know you don't need it.
I looked and found the install manuals on the web to try and pick one which might be easier to install with less holes to drill. Ended up, since we have a small overhang, we taped the cord to the top of the unit and used the existing power cord hole. (Not saying this is recommended).
We also use the OLD bracket...modifying it to fit the new oven. It went completely around the oven, so all we needed was to drill the new holes 11/16ths up. And we cut out sections for the vent. This allowed us to use existing holes drilled in tile.
THE new oven only had a tab across the bottom...and it was bent when we got it. The template was missing too. But the directions had the dimensions.
Most places wanted $99 for install. Probably worth it. You need two people to install an oven, as they are "heavy", over 50 pounds.
I watched you tube...and got some install tips. Like drill through the steel plate to include a stud. The guy at Home depot..explained mounting. (Two screws in upper cabinet...then it drops down and fits on lower bracket at wall).
